Stop wasting time and learn touch typing!

But why ...

If you work on a computer - you type - a lot - and you will type - a lot.

Typing without looking at the keyboard has the following advantages:

Constantly looking down on your keyboard is no different than looking at your phone all day. It ruins your posture and in the long run you will develop round back and forward head posture. These will result in headaches and back pains. You can avoid that by not looking at your keyboard.

It will be faster - but that's not what you will learn here. The speed will come naturally over time but you must first teach your fingers to type by themselves. Not looking at the keyboard will also help you with typos as you will see the text immediately as you type it.

A lot of communication happens via text now and if you can't easily type you will fall behind in the conversations or just wont be willing to participate in some discussion as that would be too much effort to type out your thoughts. Touch typing takes way less effort once you learn it.

Keyboards were designed to by typed on without looking. When they were first introduced in the typewriters the users were trained to touch type as they had to read the text they were typing out. Now the keyboards are given to us without any training yet we're expected to use them efficiently on a daily basis - that's absurd.

Imagine being able to type just twice as fast as you can now. Wouldn't that make your life easier? This is a skill you will benefit from probably till the rest of your life so don't stress if it takes time - it will pay off eventually. Learning to type without looking at the keyboard is the first step to learn to type fast and with less effort.

But how ...

By developing muscle memory in your hands - which is done by repetition.

You just have to repeatedly type without looking. Starting with just letters, simple words and then building up to more complex ones.

That's the purpose of this website - to give you a simple tool which will allow you to practice with increasingly longer words and later on with punctuation.

Some theory as to how place your finger on the keyboard and how position yourself will also be given - see the articles at the bottom of this page.

How long ...

It varies from person to person.

Developing muscle memory takes time and practice. There are no tricks and shortcuts. Some people learn it in a couple of weeks or months. For some it might take a year to click.

It took me a couple of attempts in a span of two years to finally touch type while chatting or writing emails. Then a lot more to actually perfect it. Yet it was well worth it.

But there are people (typically younger folks) who achieve that in just two weeks of training. The truth is that they just practice more. It also took around a month to train a professional machine typewriter touch typist back in the day, but they were spending all days on a training boot camps just doing that all day long.

So there is a simple correlation - the more you practice and actually try to type like that while using computer - the faster your hands will learn it.

Let's start then. Read the first article and come back here to practice.
