Type out your thoughts ⌨️🦖
That's what you gonna do most of the time
We learn and practice touch typing by retyping existing text in front of us which is unknown to us. But that is not how the typing at your work typically look like.
The times of retyping hand written notes are mostly gone. At most you will type what you hear. But most of the times you will type out your own thoughts: emails, chat messages, notes, documents, code.
Close your eyes
Open any program in which you can type - ideally the same you are using at your work.
Now close your eyes and try to type out your thoughts.
Open your eyes and see if you correctly typed what you wanted.
Same principles apply
The content does not matter but remember to apply the same rules as mentioned in previous articles:
- relax and have proper posture
- concentrate on accuracy
- type slow, medium, fast
It is easier, isn't it?
You will probably discover that typing your own thoughts is easier then retyping unknown text. But having no visual feedback will test your confidence in what is going on on the keyboard.
This will help you to learn to trust your fingers allowing you to relax more and making typing more effortless in the future.
That's some progress
From not looking at the keyboard to not looking at all.
I hope it will help, now go back to typing my friend :)
